Message from
the Bereavement Ministry

Everyone is living under difficult and stressful circumstances. The Covid-19 pandemic makes it especially challenging for the bereaved. It has disrupted much needed mourning rituals; such as wakes and funerals. It has also created thousands of new mourners, many of whom are grieving alone.

The death of a loved one can be the most profound emotional experience we will ever endure. The grief that follows can be painful and challenging. St. Dominic’s Bereavement Support Groups provides an opportunity to be listened to, understood, nurtured, and loved. We also give you “tasks” or methods to get through the grieving process. Unfortunately we cannot have meetings at this time but I want to reach out to you to let you know you are not alone. Two things that may help you during this time:

Journaling– It is a good way to discover and articulate what you are going through. Write down your thoughts, feeling, anxieties and questions. It helps you to externalize what you are feeling internally.

Letter to Loved One – Write a letter to your loved one as if they are still alive.  Tell them all the things you love and appreciate about them. Tell them something you never got a chance to say. This can be especially helpful during this time since many could not be with their loved one to say goodbye. Here at St. Dominic’s we hope you find solace in knowing we are with you spiritually until we can be with you physically. We are praying for you. If you need to talk, Maureen from the Bereavement Ministry can be reached at (732) 840-1410 Ext. 219, just dial extension number when greeting begins. Leave a message she will get back to you as soon as possible.

O sweet Mother Mary, who knew the sadness of mourning those your heart loved most, Jesus your Son, and Joseph, your devoted spouse.  Pray for us in our time of loss. Amen.
